Best advice received
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.
I run my own business which is still pretty small. I have a membership site and run retreats.
I say RAWFEM, you say...
One of the Hardest moments in your life?
When I wanted to quit my PhD but ended up not doing it.
How did you overcome it?
I joined Greenpeace, the Uni social committee & undergrad halls and discovered my love for communities.
Who’s your tribe?
Digital Nomad Girls (in the past also Greenpeace and hopefully again soon)
What do you wish you stopped doing a long time ago?
Being a perfectionist and caring too much what others might say.
After A shitty day/month/year, How do you keep going?
Social interaction is what fuels me and the girls in my life keep me going.
who/What changed your direction forever?
Starting my Facebook group for fun changed my life forever as it turned into my business.
Hardest part about being a trailblazer / first generation?
High expectations and being incredibly hard on myself.
Sacrifice made to get here? Sacrifice NOT willing to make?
I quit my science career, I left my home twice (Munich and London), I've earned much less than I could have in science. I'm not willing to give up my passion for travel. I'm not willing to live according to other people's standards.
Growing up, money was _____. Now, money is _____.
For others.... For those who create it.
ABOUT HER BUSINESS
What is your business about?
We inspire, connect and empower girls around the world to live a sustainable, location independent life.
What stage is your business at?
Where do you get support? Or do you do it all yourself?
Volunteers in my FB group, my mum is an admin, my boyfriend helps out and I am about to hire a VA.
Do you have employees? If so, What do you look for?
I had a VA before but it didn't work out well, partly because I didn't give myself enough time and headspace to hire someone. I am also a little afraid of being a boss and tend to be too wishy washy in my directions. I'm in the process of hiring one.
How did you overcome your fear of selling?
I started small with a very low price, did that twice and got annoyed at myself for selling myself short. Then increased and had even more people sign up. But to be honest, I'm still in the process.
What should you do less / more of, but don't?
I should spend less time on repetitive tasks that a VA could do and more time on creating systems and processes.
biggest high and most challenging low in your business?
Launching my membership site last year and running 3 retreats were the highs. The low was dealing with unpleasant community members and clients.
Your advice for new / growing / peaked entrepreneurs?
Always think about how you're helping people first. Build community first and not just so you can sell to them. Be real, be you.
Networking, how do you?
Online, all day long as networking for me is just making friends. In person too when I go to events, but large events tend to overwhelm me a little.
biggest leap of faith you’ve ever taken in your business?
Just launching a retreat from scratch never having done anything like this before.
How many hours a week do you work on / in your business?
Not enough and I can't really say. Need to track my time better ;)
